Default Head help!

Ok, im looking to buy some new heads for my 80 l82. I ordered a edlebrock performer air gap intake and new Hooker Comp headers, everything else is stock. So stock flat tops and stock cam, what do you think would be the best heads for low end torque? i want the most low end torque i can get without major modifications. AND reasonably priced

It's a shame you didn't hold off on ordering the intake until after this thread. I was going to suggest Vortec heads. They can be bought cheap used, and installed easy. The intake manifold bolt pattern is different ans they make carb manifolds for the Vortec heads. A few guys have done this and were very happy with the results.

If you want aluminum, look for a set of L98's. They aren't the best high rpm head but do hold their own for low end torque. I bought mine for $355 plus $95 for my engine builder to freshen them up.

I may not make quite as much hp as the vortec but like you I already had the intake etc.

Well the first step is finding the heads. I have a few avenues as far as used parts networks go and there is always Ebay. I don't have a lot of info on the Vortec head swap but I know a few guys who have done it and am PMing them to come in and check on this thread.

Send me a PM with your email address.
