I believe theres some other components that need to be replaced to eliminate contamination for the conversion.

I'm no A/C expert but someone should pop in and clear things up soon enough

I do have the specs for the R12 and oil capacities but that changes with the 134 conversion.

If I recall, there is a desiccant element in the evaporator? that needs to be replaced, or the entire unit (a bitch to get at)
I tried it the easy way and it cost me over $130
It blew cool (low 40's) for about 4 days then it decreased from then on
I know that the 134 doesn't like the R12 seals .... Its all kind of vague but better to do it right rather than throw money away, which is exactly what I did

i recently changed my 79 to 134a, had to change all the orings in the system, the schrader valves, hoses, accumulator/drier, orifice tube, compressor (mine was locked up). flushed out evaperator coil with castrol ac system flush, to get all the old oil out. also flushed condenser coil. (had to remove it to do that). poured 8 oz. oil directly into the compressor. pressure tested the entire system after reassembly to 80 psi, overnight. pulled a vacuum on it for 2 hrs., installed 4 cans 134a, the best it will do is about 45 degrees out of the vents. cost about $400. doing it myself. a local auto ac repair and parts supplier helped alot with the parts i needed. they rebuilt my hoses for me. using the old manifold. saves $$, hope this helps, good luck.
