I bought a B&M Megashifter, model 80690. The base plate is too big and will not fit easily into the C3 console. I am wondering if the gear indicator (the thing that shows you which gear you're in) can be removed from the B&M base plate and mounted into the original gear indicator location in the Corvette console. It looks like it will fit. Since it is cable opereated, it can still be connected to the shifter. As long as the shifter itself fits into the original slot, it looks like I won't have to cut the console at all. I guess I'm going to try it. Has anyone done this? Thanks guys.

One of our members (the Money Pit) used either a B&M MegaShifter or a B&M StarShifter (very similar) in his '80. He's got a website you may want to check out.

It is a lot of work to install but it can be done. It also requires fabrication so this project is not for everyone. I gave up on installing in the original console and just made a custom but I did have the shifter in the original slot. The problem that I had was getting some kind of boot made to cover that original opening and fit the shifter. Here are some pics of my install.
Here is the original console with the shifter in, It takes a lot of clearancing and is really tight. Save the pic of the shifter on the bench and open it in your pc so you can read the text boxes. They explain what is required.
I had this console overlay made so that I could cut out the console underneath. I then had this covered with a carbon fiber overlay.
Wow, your install looks great. I didn't know it would be that tight. I saved that picture and zoomed in, but could not read any of the text. Could you email a copy of that or something? I am installing mine on Thursday, and that looks like very valuable, useful information for me. Thanks.
