Default Help with a Torker II issue

I put a Torker II on my 68 427/390 and Im just getting around to stabbing the distributor. I have a gapof about 3/4 of an inch between the bottom of the dist shaft and the base of the t-2. Where the gasket usually goes. Do I need a spacer? 2 gaskets?. What size? Any help appreciated..

Sounds like your distributor is not seated on the oil pump shaft. All the intakes are the same heighth to the bottom of the distrubutor.

Have you been through stabbing a distributor and establishing TDC before? Did the motor get rotated any at all since you pulled dist?

If it did, then you need to get #1 piston up on TDC on compression stroke. Then drop distributor in with rotor pointing to #1 pole on dist cap.

If motor hasn't been moved any, then I assume you're dropping it so the rotor is pointing to same spot it was when you pulled it? Since the gear is angled, the dist shaft rotates slightly as it engages and as it goes down. That means you need to start with it a little behind where you think it needs to be as far as rotor position. It will rotate into place as it drops. Try backing the dist back up one tooth and see if it will wiggle down into the hole as it drops. There is an oil pump driveshaft down there that mates to the end of the dist. Look down the hole and at the end of the dist. to see the flat blade slot to engage it. You *might* have to reach down in the motor with a long screwdriver and rotate the oil pump driveshaft slightly to get it to engage dist properly.

Good luck!

I did bring #1 to TDC and backed the dist up 1/8 before #1. Like it says in the "chilton manual". It just didnt drop all the way in. It looked like the pump was in the right position. I just thought the T-2 looked a bit lower and maybe I needed a spacer. Im sure its the oil pump shaft. Thanks guys..

You can turn the oil pump shaft with a long screw-driver or I usually simply bump the starter and the distributor falls in to place.

I got it.

Heres another question. The hayes manual says bring #1 to TDC then turn the crank til the mark is opposite the static mark (im assuming on the timing tab). Then it says to stab the dist with the rotor pointing opposite #1.

I just brought #1 to TDC then stabbed the dist with the rotor at #1. Am I ok. Seems like this is how Ive done it before..

Thanks for the help..
