I had evacuators on my drag car. When I made it street legal with mufflers, The first time down the track the evacs pressure-ized the crankcase and it was blowing oil out the VC breathers so bad, it was running down the headers and smoking like crazy . They told me to fix it or park it. I unhooked the hoses and the oil quit blowing out. I now have a dual PCV set up that works great.

I had relatively good luck with mine except that they didn't give me the cam that I paid for.. It seems like their quality varies a lot but not all of their engines are junk. They do use good parts BUT the inconsistent machine work seems to be the main problem..
So what it's like 50/50 chance you'll get one that doesn't blow up ? I like my odds higher than that

I almost forgot about the one where the harmonic balancer fell off when he started it up, was that tshort ?

Don't get me wrong here, if someone makes a good product I am all over it with praise, if someone puts out junk I want to tell everyone so they don't get ripped off, simple as that

Default Welcome back dath.

U need to get the vlv train back together to do a legitimate leakdown test Dath. A flawed leakdown test will only give u bad info. I know trying to get the plugs out while engine is hot ain't gonna happen but a cold mtr can be considered worst case and leakdown numbers would only improve with a hot engine. But it needs to be done with each cylinder locked at TDC on the compression stroke - random piston location will tell u nonsense.
BTW my Chiltons says 15% is still satisfactory/driveble.

As for tuning u can start with a rebuilt Edlebrock Preformer carb with electric choke just to get your timing under control. Yes something like a toolbox carb for tuning - not for going fast. A little factory tuned 600cfm Edlebrock Preformer for <$200 should help u get the timing adjust and vacuum adv setup.

Now for oil consumption is there oil on the intk vlv stems? That much oil must be could be from a poorly sealed intk, or totaly ineffective piston rings. My guess is thats too much oil consumption for bad or even missing vlv seals.

BTW nastee383 did have his new truck eng quit on start up - some kind'a wack noise then it just died. To get it started again his block was dissisembled then reassembled by another eng shop.
And yes tshort had holes in his pistons with very few miles too.

I'm trying not to get started on AR engines but they do keep reappearing here. So my question is does anybody even write thier feedback on ebay? Everytime i buy something on ebay over $100 i read the customer reports. Maybe human nature but plenty of people will spend a bunch of hard earned cash and not even bother to type for 30min 'bout how they got ripped. If Walmart was selling 50% defective products that cost $3k each would they stay in business? Well its kinda hard to file a lawsuit in Virginia from Ohio or Oregon, but a couple of small law suits would take away thier tools and shut thier doors.

Yea, i bet race to be happy has dozens of happy AR customers somewhere.

Dath, u need to slow down and evaluate whats wrong and what u want to do. A good leakdown and compression test should tell you if the bottom end or top end have problems or are significant out'a wack. If u really do need a rebuild a good machine shop can tell if cylinders need reboring or just honing and rings. If the shop can't give u striaght answers and just want your $$$ then move on to another shop and another shop again if needed. But a teardown will be a good opportunity to measure everything - crank, bearings.

Best of luck and thx for posting as it helps all of us.

If he is running any type of mufflers, it won't work. With open exhaust, it will improve the oil consumption but it is a patch, not a fix..

When I installed it, the smoking and major oil consumption went away after my first couple drag strip passes with that system..
Vacuum will help to seat rings, even on a out of round bore but when you remove the system again, there's a good chance that it'll go back to the same situation as before..
