I finally got to install / assemble my new kwiklift. It came in about 5 days after I ordered it but I was still finishing off the sheetrock and painting the garage so it sat on the trailer. There are basically 7 parts. I got the HD version.. why?.. cause I over kill everything I do.. anyway I assembled everything myself. It would have been much easier haveing the second set of hands but I have no friends so I did it myself.. :cry It's pretty heavy but managable. Everything went together fine except when I tried to attach the ramps to the front supports. The holes on one of the supports were about 1/8inch too low so I couldn't install the locking rod. I spoke to Kwiklift and they are sending me a new one. I bent the locking rod in the mean time and with a little persuation :smash: I got it through the holes. I was going to grind the hole bigger but for what I paid for this thing, I want it to be right.. and since Kwiklift wasn't giving me any hasles about sending me a new one.. they are a really good company to work with. If I get some time tonight I'm going to try putting the vette on it. Have to see where it will best fit in the room once the car is on it. It looks like a really good setup.. Hope I don't drive off the stupid thing. :(
That is great............... I want to purchase one of these units by next summer '02. Just thinking of the numerous repairs and mods you can do ,YOURSELF, in your own garage is exciting. Congrats!!!!
Koz, I've been thinking about one of those too. How much did yours cost and put some pictures of it on here! We would all like to see it!!! Congrats!!!
You are truly livin the ideal corvette owners dream!!!!!!!!!! I to will have a lift one day. Got to build a better garage first.
You were right the radio came out easy. Not exactly 15 minutes, but I did it myself. I also got the bogus clock and ammeter out, along with the instrument cluster bezel. I am sending all that crap back to Ecklers. I would rather have a 32 year old radio that sounds bad and 32 year old guages that don't work, then all new equipment that doesn't look right and doesn't work well either.
Congrats on the new lift!!!!!!
livin
I'll try and post pictures over the weekend. I haven't tried it yet.. Just been too busy and I know once I put her up there and get under her.. I may not want to come out..
Let me say this.. WOW.. I got on the creaper which is VERY comfortable and slid right under her. I was sliding from front to back.. I've seen things I've never seen before and everything looks easy to get to. One thing I did notice.. I have to r&r the passenger side exhaust manifold. I planned on doing it from underneath once I got this lift. I can see 4 of the bolts.. the others I'll have to get from the top. With the car on the lift I'll be working off the side of the rail on those other bolts. Might be a little harder or I might need to build a step platform out of wood.. but for the ease of getting under her.. this is awsome.
wow... how much do you think it would cost to weld one together?... i'm the same way i over kill every think, I even put gas lines in place of vaccum sometimes (only if goes near heat  )
Looks great Koz. Once you get it into the garage, you can not move it out, correct?
I would say yes.. The only part that connects the lift ramps together is the lift tube in the back.. It just slides through the lift tube holes in the ramps. Except for the grease on the tube, it is possible, with not too much effort, to take out the tube leaving 2 seperate ramps which could be moved off to the side. The unit is heavy so it would be more like drag it to the side.. front first, then back, then front.. The front blocks remove real easy by just pulling the 24" pin out but then you have the 2 blocks to stand somewhere. Supose I could make a bench... I plan on leaving my together especially with winter coming. I'm going to leave her on the lift.
