Default Please help! Can you tell me the difference between these?!?

I planned on replacing the moving headlights from my 1976 corvette with a set of the fixed rectangular headlights. I met someone here who agreed to sell me a set used that were on his 1971. I just saw that there are two different models from 1968-1974 and another model from 1975-1982.

Can anyone tell me why a set meant for the 68-74 would not fit on my 1976? I dont mind drilling a new mounting hole or some such easy modification but if there is a huge difference in the contour of the bumper I would like to know.

Here are the links to Ecklers for a comparison between the assemblies I am talking about:
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...0&dept_id=1353
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1353

Here are some pictures of the differing between the model years original brackets:
http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...5&dept_id=1476
http://i3.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/a7/10/e309_1.JPG
vs the pre 1975 brackets, http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...1&dept_id=1476

Please note the last link shows the assembly flipped upside down.
Honestly they look completely similar, and the plexiglass cover for them covers the complete model years from 68-82, so the exterior contour and shape must be the same.

I dont mind doing some drilling and shimming if required but I was hoping that someone had a definitive answer in the exact differences. Thanks.

p.s. sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be completely clear and show all the research I have done to maybe save some helpful person the time.

you need the ones in the First link. The Second link is early C3 and the last 3 links are for stock type flip up light buckets.

edit: my bad, misread your post

I know the ones in the first link are what are deemed needed for my car, but what I am asking is what is the difference between the two? I agreed to buy the "incorrect" type from a gentleman on here, and I am asking what would have to be modified to make it work? Like just drilling, or a little bit of shimming, or is it not possible at all. Thanks sixfooter for your response but I know what all links are of. I was just sowing the differences between the mounting brackets between the two different models of headlights. Thanks

Paul

Nope Ecklers doesnt know the difference between the brackets either, seems like no one does. I am just gonna go for broke and try them. I will let everyone know how it turns out and the difference between the brackets if anyone cares? Thanks for all the help.

Paul, sorry but I just spotted your post about the headlight buckets. I can't answer your question, but might know someone who can. You might be familiar with S&S Corvette in Cocoa. Ask for Stan, he used to work at Eckler's and is very knowledgable and might even have what you need. 321-631-3174. Scott might also know, if he answers the phone.
