Default Ideal Kick Panel Speaker Size

What speaker sizes is everyone running so that the front kick panel speakers can fit flush against the kickpanels and the maginet fit within the body mount access?

Thanks in advance for any and all input.

5.25"s fit with only minor "clearancing" to the bird cage. They will fit behind the kick panel totally. I believe the 6.5"s will also fit but must be mounted on the outside of the kick panel or custom kick panels made.

I used the 5.25s because I didn't want to cut up my kick panels or have big speakers visual.

I just threw in some 4x6's, basically a direct replacement with no clearance issues at all. They have less low-end response than the 5.25's though.

Some 5.25 can be mounted in the kicks properly (solidly mounted w/ a plate) w/o mods to the kick panel. 5.25 is ideal for natural sound. There is not enough airspace behind to optimize 6.5s which should go into doors. The off axis response of the 5 1/4 should be better than a larger 6 1/2.
With separate tweeters or adjustable- angle up & back.

monza_man & others w/ 4X6
I just recently got around to front speakers & did some experiments using 4x6 since they fit easily. (Disconnected the dash speakers in the 70s.)
Typically a plate is needed for mounting since the back waves need to be separated from the front.
I figured the lack of airspace was an issue & tested them in doors & they sounded much better.

4x10s (stock for 68 and 69) will fit behind the kick panels.

The bird cage was reinforced on later models & the speaker opening is about 5 3/4" H X 4" W.

You drive a C3. You're supposed to have a lousy stereo, that's what the exhaust is for!

4x10 speakers are far, far from "ideal."

Will these mount behind the kick panels without a plate or modification?

A mounting plate should be used to separate the front from back sound waves to prevent cancellation so a plate was used. 5.25 Components behind factory kick panels though some additional holes were opened in the panels.

I have 6.5", but they are mounted at an angle. I only used the opening for part of the magnet, not the whole thing.
