There are a lot of schools of thaught going on here, and if it works for you, that's great.but you can't compare a big block running a dual plane to a small block running a single plane. There's physics of airflow that are in play here that I can only begin to understand.

Also those running no vacuum advance,I'd be interested to hear from you as to what settings you run. Initial, total, and rate(what rpm is max timing in at)in the event I decide to try it.On a side note,I'd also be curious to hear about gas milage that you get from your combination. At $3.00 a gallon,I refuse to park it,but if I can twaek more miles out of a gallon.....why not?

No Vac advance.
14* at idle, 32* by 2,500 rpm. This is with 7 inches of Vac at 800 rpm with dual 500 Performers, single plane Offy intake.
No problems .

I had a Crane adjustable and had it all over the place and limited the amount of advance it used. This worked OK for the 350 with a milder cam but with this cam and 385 it just idled badly. I would run 14 initial and 36 total with the vacuum bringing in another 10 to 12 at idle. With the 385 the vacuum was a little lower and would just drop the can out no matter which can I used. I am currently using a MSD dist without vacuum advance and running 22 initial and 36 total. Idles just fine at 900 to 950.

I had to reduce the idle restricors a few sizes and this cleaned up the idle. The jets are close to what came in the Demon. I'll have to check my notes when I get to them. I am running a 6.5 PV and have always run this with no problem. I have not had to drill the throttle plates. Boosters are stock but I have talked to a few people at BG and they suggested the annulars for more mid range and better idle. I might give up a few HP at the top end but better driveability. I am not convinced of this yet but may try it.

I have run this on a chassis dyno with an O2 gauge and also with my LM1 hooked up and the fuel curve is pretty much dead on. Tried a few different jets and timing and power dropped slightly. I need to get to the strip to really test it out. Again like yours not a tremendous omount of low end but at 3500 hold on!
I tried the AR-31 can with my limiter mod tonight, and preliminary findings are it was a waste of time. I did not fully warm her up,but had the guage on the vacuum can line while running, and below 1000 rpms the can seems to drop out. (engine wants to stall)I tested the can by mouth, and saw it begin pulling at 6 inches, and had my full 12 degree advance with 8 inches.

I'll run it tomorrow in to work and see how it behaves fully warmed up. Maybe it just needs minor adjustments. It's getting too late to be running that beast in the garage with the neighbors settling in for the evening.

That aside. If no good, the MSD suppied mechanical limiter bushing I have installed in the largest that came with the distributer and limits to 18 degrees. How did you get yours to 14 degrees so you could bump the initial to 22 degrees?

I also used the largest bushing on mine. I can't remember if I did anything else to limit it. I do remember doing something but my mind is drawing a blank. Not unusual anymore. I'll have to check it out later and see if I can remember.
