The PS pump on my 69 BB coupe has leaked for a long time and now that I have it out with the engine rebuild, it appears Bubba 'repaired' it with some sloppy welding where the filler neck meets the case that hasn't solved the problem.
I've heard replacement cases can be had and transferring the guts is relatively easy.
Anyone have experience with this?
Also, anyone know where I can buy a replacement case reasonably?
Buy a stock GM replacement pump. Replace the hoses at the same time and be sure the hoses attach properly to the pump on the back. I believe they changed the pumps to be generic and one of the hoses may need an adapter.
But if your have the engine out for a rebuild, now would be a great time to replace the power steering with a Jeep unit and get rid of all that steering valve etc you have now.

1, with the reservoir and pump assembled.
2, pump only with a few O rings {including the reservoir O riing }
Reservoirs are not sold seperately. Unforutinately there are no universal pumps. When ordering be specific as to year, or the hoses and brackets may not fit.
You may find a resivoir at a junk yard but due to the age this may be a difficult alternative.
When you buy your new replacement pump, just to make sure you don"t have any "new" problems, you may want to use the flow control valve out of your old pump in your new one. Corvette Power steering systems operate on a lower pressure (1000psi) than some, or most other GM cars. The Saginaw PS pump is the same basic unit for a lot of GM cars and trucks but the flow control valve that regulates the pressure for the Corvette is set up to a lower pressure than most other vehicles. Go to http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/ and read up on it in Jim Sheas excellent articles. I replaced mine with an AGR pump - a little pricey but everything was correct and works great.
GO AHEAD - BUY A NAPA REPLACEMENT with RESEVOIR like I ended up doing !
Was this the 72 or the 74 BB? I'm worried about the fit of the fuller neck of the newer pump resevoir. On my 69, the pump sits below the alt and the neck is tight as it is. Did the fittings match?

Appreciate the replies!
I have a 60 also and love it!
It was the 74 BB. I actually had to "slightly shorten" the cap - dipstick in order to get it to go in and tighten. Why is that so tight under the alternator?
I just took one apart tonight. Looked at how it is done. If you remove the res and clean it real well, I don't see why you could not have the neck/tank brased up. Find a competent welder and get it done, if you don't have the tools/skills.
Rebuild kit is about $20
Just ordered mine tonight for my '76 sb. $31 for a pump with no resorvoir, $50 for the pump AND reservoir. Ordered it from Autozone, will be here by 12 tomorrow. Just need to put the old pulley on it. I went for the $50 one because I want NO leaks. I also got the Vansteel PS rebuild kit and hoses I'm going to put in.
My Pump also sits very close to the alternator, hard to get the cap out of it too, sounds like the same deal as the BB setup.
