Default Need some perspective on Tranny.

1969 Saginaw 3 speed on a 350/300 cpe.

Drove the car 15 years ago. I would have to double clutch up to second most of the time, and definitely down shifting to second every time. I figure the synchro was bad, or maybe worn blocker rings.

I am doing a body off resto, so the clutch has been replaced. I pull the whole tranny apart, but all the gears look fine. This is my first tranny, so maybe I am not sure what I am looking for. There is no evidence of chipped or warn gears. Everything looks new. I'd post pics, but it will be a week before I can get them.

Why do I need to double clutch the shifts? Could it just be the clutch? The clutch had no other indication of failing? Should I replace the synchros anyway?

I would. you have it out of the car and taken apart. there's no better time and it's not going to be expensive.

now, get ready for all of the "change it to a 6 speed" posts..

haha thanks. Bring on the 6 speed posts. It is one of 250 original 3 speeds. I've only seen one other.

If the clutch felt fine otherwise, it probably wasn't the problem. Replace the synchros...
