Default FR-34

Accidently posted this on off topic. (OOPS) Has anybody used FR-34? I have heard that you wouldn't have to change anything using this refrigerant.

Never heard of FR-34. Checked the EPA site http://www.epa.gov/spdpublc/title6/snap/macssubs.html and they do not have a listing for it.

I've used it this past summer. Its seems to work but I don't think it gets as cold as the other stuff R-14? Didn't have any problems charging the system. Also, it was inexpensive... :chevy

I'm using Freeze-12 myself. It operates @ near R-12 pressures and carries the mineral oil originally used in the system, so there's next to nothing to do as a drop-in replacement. However, if you have a leaking system, this stuff will fractionate and could raise havoc with your compressor. Anything other than real freon is a gamble but @ $20/can for R-12, I felt it was worth it.

Per the EPA page posted above, Freeze-12 is a blend. Made up primarly of HCF-134a, 80%, and the rest is HCFC-142b.
