So... I'm looking for a new carb to throw on my '72. The original carb wasn't really working ... it was rebuilt and that didn't help much. Then I bought an Edelbrock Performer 600cfm - wouldn't run well regardless of endless tuning. My uncle, who owns a garage, throws an old Quadrajet he had lying around on it --- and then it ran beautifully! Unfortunately I could only borrow that carb and now I need to buy my own. I'm looking for suggestions as to what I should get. I was thinking a quadrajet since that is what worked but a few people have told me that's not a good idea. I'm no master technician and I just want my vette to be driveable! Is that too much to ask? Help! I'm going crazy!
Quadrajets are best and are fairly easy to find at junkyards with older vehicles. If your original was a Quadrajet, just find someone who knows what they are doing to rebuild it right! God bless, Sensei
I sent him an email. Hopefully he can help me out too!
How long did it take? What does he charge?
He'll send you all the info, but he really charges you for just the shipping and replacement parts. Around $100 for a perfectly tuned Q-jet, which is rediculous.
I haven't sent mine off yet, but I already can't wait to get it back

Lars has an incredible shop and considerable knowledge and access to q-jet parts. Both the primary and secondary throttle shafts on my '69 q-jet required re-bushing. Lars bored and bushed both like a pro. My carb had been sticking open... the carb base plate was so badly worn the shafts were getting cockeyed in their bores and hanging up the throttle; not a good thing. Lars even found and installed parts that had been removed and/or damaged. When I got the carb back, Lars had road-tested it on his 65 convertible... in the dead of winter. I had to chuckle at his description of a top-down freezing cruise he took to road test the carb. Only Lars!
If you haven't already, have him rebuild your points-style distributor. Mine was also worn out and he rebuilt and then set it up using his distributor machine. He even found a bad distributor wire (may have been the wire that runs to the condenser/points, not sure) that was causing an unexplainable miss and fixed it too.
