Default Need Suggestions (first complete engine build)

I have just about down everything you can think of to motors but have never started with a bare block build.
I need some suggestions on cam and head selection to go with this Eagle http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku 383 rotating assembly from summit. I think this rotating assembly may be a little over kill but I want a bottom end that is tough enough to withstand want ever I throw at it, hard street use and possibly a little track time. I want to accomplish between 480 to 520 hp is the goal. I have read allot of different post about the dart and AFR heads being both of good quality. I have a budget now after the machine work and rotating ***. of $3,000.

AFR heads are great, but if you're only looking to spend another $3000, you'll drop half of your budget just on the AFRs.

Between the darts (around $800 to $1,000) and the AFR's ($1,300 to $1,600) is there a big quality difference that can justify the big cost difference?

I think that you will spend more than $800.00 for the Dart Pro 1 aluminum heads. Actually, if you are shooting for 480-520, I think that any head that you get is going to cost at least half of your remaining budget.

Also, as a side note, you may want to cross reference Eagle's website to make sure that the pistons are actually 16cc pistons. There has been a problem recently with mix ups. Check with Kinglear for details.

Heads are the most important part of the build...I would spend the extra on the heads and go cheap on the intake before I went cheap on the heads...I'd go AFR 195 or 220's(?) the bigger heads will probably put you way over your target HP..Edelbrock AirGap Manifold and Acrane xtreme cam...this is similar to a build a magazine did a while back. I think they got about 550 out of it..and the peak torque came in around 3000 or 3500 I think...they stuck a victor junior on and got more HP but the torque moved way up in the rpm range. plus no way a victor junior would fit under the hood...(not sure if the airgap would either , but a lot better chance.) top it off with a demon 750...

That would be really nice to have the peak torque come in around 3000 to 3500 RPM. I have an Edelbrock airgap already so I think I am already set there, I bought it when I purchase the rotating assembly.
