Default Torq for diff crossmember reinforcement discs

I have the alum rear crossmember reinforcement discs purchased from Vansteel several years ago. I have never been able to torq without spreading the lock washers. I have used grease and a flat washer between the disc and lock washer as well. I think I may be over tightening.

Been using 40 LBS, anyone know the correct torq or tricks? Maybe a wave washer versus locking?

Thanks!

use a grade 8 locking washer. Regular soft steel will just spread.
40ftlbs sounds about right its only a 3/8 bolt

Thanks for response, used grade 8 (twice) and it is 1/2 so pretty stout stuff. Seams like head must be catching the lock washer.
