Today my clutch pedal, on my 77 Vette, 4-speed, lost the cir-clip ( I think that's what was there) that holds the activating rod. By looking under the dash, I can bearly get my hand up there, is there any way to re-install the linkage without taking the dash all apart? Has anyone repaired the clutch pedal without disconnecting all the wiring behind the dash.
Thanks everyone, great advise. I found the clip on the floor, took out the seat and fixed the problem. Of course I had to disconnect the rod from the clutch linkage under the hood first. The clip seems loose, has anyone replaced the clip with a cotter-pin? Seems like it would be more secure with one.
That clip is designed to allow for easy removal. (Not supposed to fall off)
I would try to continue to use same clip even if it means giving it a slight bend to keep it from falling off again.
If you decide to use a cotter pin, make sure to ends of the cotter pin are situated so that they will not bind in linkage.
Good idea, I'll keep the old one and try making it more secure. I was lucky, when it happened I wasn't far from home, I'd hate for it to happen again on a long trip.
Thanks again all. Youve been a great help. as usual.
I had the same problem. It can be installed without moving the steering wheel column. I got on my back under the dash, grab the clip and reach over the top. For some reason, I couldn't get it from the bottom. I thought it was impossible until I got lucky and went over the top. Then it went right in.
