Engine won't turn off
I removed my 383 out of one of my other cars last week and put it in the corvette. It was running fine before the swap but now when it gets hot it starts to smoke (maybe from all the oil and crap on the exhaust) and won't turn off. I disconnected the wires from the coil and it still ran. Only thing i could do to stop it is disconnect the spark plugs from the distributer. When the ignition is off it runs very rough like it barely has enough power to spark. Could be my MSD i think they have those problems. it will shut off when cold and it has only been running for about 20 seconds.

The only time my 79 kept running was when I accidently connected the clock wire to some other wires, when I turned the key off the engine kept running. However if you have an always hot wire entering your MSD distributor then the engine will keep running also. Check your wiring. I am running a 6AL and MSD dist. and all is well if wired by the diagram.

Back around 72-73 there was a problem with "runon" not dieseling.I cant remember but I think it had something to do with the starter solenoid backfeeding.I had one once with a misadjusted ignitin switch.Maybe some of these old farts that owned cars back then and dont have demensha will chime in.

Some aftermarket ignition systems need you to add a diode in the charging system wiring to prevent this type of thing. If you switched the engine to a different vehicle with all else the same, this is something good to check into. I needed one when I added a Crane HI-6 to my Camaro.
