I had adjusted the timing per the instruction posted by Lars. The car was running better then it ever has. I drove it , ran great, it stopped popping idle smooth and was quieter. Later in the day I was checking the timing again to see if it had changed I was checking the total at 36 degrees revving the motor up and when I let off it was running like crap. I did not change the timing at all it was just running bad again. Now it idles bad cuts out and is popping out the exhaust again. I had replaced the following before I timed it. Cap,rotor, module, vac adv can, advance springs, coil, pickup coil, wires, plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump and fuel line to the pump. What happended?
So did the timing move or is it the same as it was?
Look at the advance weights and springs, make sure they are working correctly, something might have let go in there
When I checked the timing it was jumping around. After I shut the car off I put a rubber band around the weights and checked the timing again and it was still jumping around. The weights and springs looked good and nothing was loose.
Before Lars tuned my '68, my timing would jump around. He pulled the dist, shimmed it to get the play within spec, and the timing was dead on after that. No more jumping. Do you have a lot of play in the dist shaft? Just a thought.
clean the inside of the dist. You might have slung some contaminants around. You running elec ignition ?? what brand? have you checked to make sure you're getting a full 12v to the + side of the coil
