I was wondering what it would take to repair this crack. If I did have this fixed would it compromise its strength? It would probably only cost 10 bucks to pay someone to weld it.
Take it to any machine shop for TIG welding. Aluminum is one of the easiest metals to repair and the weld will easily exceed the strength of the parent metal.
I would just get a different one. Replacements are not too hard to find and the repair will cost more than you think. Once it is welded the bellhousing will likely be heat warped. I had one heli-arc'd and it was trash once it was finished. Not worth the effort unless it only needs minimal work.
I had mine tigged up for a crack tha twas right at the bottom. It was about a 4 inch crack. after tigging and a little grinder work you could not tell it was welded. Just as strong as the rest of the bellhousing. Never had any problems while putting 400HP through it. I had it done for free. A friend owed me a favor. Should not cost that much anyway.
Dangit! I was going to bid on it on ebay but with 2 minutes left my computer froze....go figure. It went for 118 + 20 bucks to ship. Ill just get a repo for 150.
