Default '70 Heater Core.

My heater core recently crapped out. (It’s being fixed as I type.) As a result, I now have about a half gallon of anti-freeze soaked into the carpet. What's the best way to get the anti-freeze out of the carpet? (It stinks.) I was thinking of using some of that oil absorbing "sand" and then vacuuming up the sand. Any ideas?

Bite the bullet and pull the carpet out and rinse it out thoroughly. Then clean it with a carpet cleaner and allow it to air dry from both sides.

You are not going to get the chemicals out of the jute by any absorbent used on top of the carpet.

Front carpet is about $150 if you decide to replace it.

Hello,
If you have a shop vac to first suck up the bulk of the spill. Take out the filter for wet applications.
I recommend using old news papers to soak up the spill. You will have to repeat this many times to collect the anti-freeze. Then use paper towel to get the last of it.
Good luck,

Guys..........Thanks for your suggestions. The carpet is kind of faded and torn anyway so I think I'll just replace it. Is Corvette Central the best place to get new carpet. Is the job easy? (I know - nothing is easy.)

Carpet isn't too hard. I think only two places make the kits - Corvette America and Al Knoch. Knoch is supposed to be the premium, but more expensive. I bought a kit from Eckler's over 10 years ago that fit well...since then, I've stopped buying most things from Eckler's, but their carpet is probably still supplied by Corvette America.

I have to give Al Knoch credit...several years ago, he agreed to sell me two small replacement pieces of carpet for the rear compartment that had become damaged since my interior rehab, instead of making me buy a full replacement set. Good customer service is always a plus.
