Valve cover ventilation

Just wondering how much suction there should be at the PCV when engine idling? I have an aftermarket air breather and I'm using one of the push-on valve cover vent caps in place of the line that use to run to the air breather. When I pull the PCV out it sounds like a vacuum cleaner on your hand (best way I can describe it). I know there is suppose to be suction but I'm worried the valve cover vent is not providing enough ventilation.

If you have a breather cap on one side and the PCV on the other side your fine. PCV is connected to the carb baseplate or a lower port on the carb body, not on the air cleaner.
