I am just about to add a new A/C to my 73 convertible. The car has ps and has two groove pulleys on the water pump and crank. The ps pump has a single pulley as does the alternator. The rear belt goes around the crank, water pump and alternator. The front belt goes around the crank, water pump and ps pump.
There is no A.I.R pump.
I want to add the A/C compressor on the opposite side to the alternator. What is the best pulley setup to use. Should I just add a 3 groove water pump pulley and drive the A/C comp from it. I do not care if it is original, I just want it to work and work well.
3 groove steel water pump pulleys are very expensive. Would I be better off getting the aluminum pulleys or changing to the serpentine system.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Use the stock pulleys. Get the steel 3 groove water pump pulley, it's still cheaper than converting to a serpentine setup, you won't find an aluminum version anyway, not strong enough.
