Default Q-jet mounting bolt length

I've been working on intake vacuum leaks on my 69 427/390 and today I went to install a carb to intake gasket set I received from Lars (thanks again Lars) and my question is...how long are the mounting bolts and how far down does the threaded hole go in the intake. This is an aluminium intake. The bolts I have are 3 3/8" long and one appears to have been longer and cut off by the P.O. Also what is the function of the 'U' shaped opening in the intake just in front of the primary openings? This area really collects a black soot on my car and I'm thinking that can't be good.

Thanks, Charlie

The U shaped passage is an exhaust gas path designed to heat the carb up quicker and keep it from freezing in cold weather, there should be a thin stainless heat shield designed to keep the gasses from actually reaching the carb, sandwiched between two carb gaskets, throttle openings cut but the passage is not. I plugged mine when I used this manifold.

Some of those carb holes are deep enough to penetrate the intake tract, try to get as many threads as you can into the holes, they can be missing good threads at the top.
