I mounted my Crane unit in the engine bay were the vapor canister was but I think I am going to relocate it inside the cabin. I am afraid it is going to get wet and crap out. I have seen some people mount the iginition units in the glove box.
Since I am a fair weather driver and don't use my window washer I mounted the 6AL to a plate and then to the bracket that held the washer bottle. Sorry but I don't have a picture
No pic, but on my '69 I installed mine on the small flat area between the radiator and the grill......this is the place where the factory installed the transistorized ignition box option on Corvettes.
7 years ago i put my MSD in the storage compartment behind the pass. seat, ran the 4 wires under the console and noone even knows you have it. Leave a bit of airspace around the box, it gets warm but probably no worse than being in the engine compartment.
Mounted mine up under the pass side fender well, behind the coolant tank. Out of sight, never know it was there
The red thing is the capacitor, also by MSD, and I'd recommend getting one if you plan on installing a stereo
mounted mine on the passenger side, inside the car behind the map pocket, I only mounted it with the 2 top bolts and it hangs down and is very secure and touches nothing. You can run the wires out of the hole just below the heater box. The hole is where one of the carpet plugs goes. Nobdy knows it is there
Does this allow you access to the windshield washer tank?
If so maybe I will do the same and get a tube overflow tank and move it beside the rad.
Thanks
PS: what is that big red thing above the 6AL?
Yes, there's still plenty of room to access the washer tank if needed.
That big red thing is indeed MSD's own noise filter like 682XLR8 stated, (it has a rubber boot covering it). I had a lot of stereo whine after installing the 6AL but the filter cured that completely.
Behind the passenger seat. It was a lot of work, but I had to get them out of the engine bay. I already burned one up.
Too far away from the engine in my opinion. The 6AL supplys upwards of 425 VDC to the ignition coil. Its best to keep the wires short as possible. With that high of a voltage, the drop is fairly significant over a given length of wire. At best, you should run a heavy gauge wire.
Put it on the passenger side wheel well. Away from direct heat and close to the engine. Thats where I've got mine.
