Default Steering Wheel Click

New to forum and lovin my 77. When driving straight, I get a slight click in the steering wheel when I first start to turn either way. It isn't bad but just a slight click that sounds like metal to metal. Is this a common problem and indicating a larger problem? Thanks for any help!!

Yes and when in park with engine off, it doesn't click but kind of bumps a little. I tried moving the steering wheel out but didn't change anything.

Hmm, better get under there and have a look around. Check the rag joint and have someone move the wheel back and forth to see if its torn. Underneith look at the steering joints, sounds like you have something worn or loose. You can seperate the steering arm and relay rod, that will cur the system in half to see what part is causing the click

Could it be the steering lock feature built into the ignition switch or something as simple as the turn signal cam switch? It won't be any fun taking the column apart to research. Hopefully you will find something in the steering shaft or tie rods under the hood.

But the "CLICKING NOISE" did remind me of this.
