Default Speedometer not working.

Well my speedometer stopped working all of a sudden. I pulled the cable and the ends look fine. I hooked up my drill to the tranny end of the cable and everythings works. I'm thinking it the tranny driven gear. Any idea on how to change it? Can it be changed with the tranny still in the car? Thank for any and all help Tim

There is a plastic gear you can get to. It's right where the end of the cable is. All you need is a small wrench (I forget what size it was) to get it out. Loosen up the rectangular piece there and you can pop the round part out. The gear is directly behind it. Sorry about my terminology, hope that helps!

Yup. After you take the speedo cable loose there is a bolt that holds a bracket that holds the plastic gears in the tranny. Take them out and have a look at them. BTW. I realized, I didn't look at your profile, but mine is a 4 spd, I don't know about an auto.

Thanks for the info. I have found the problem, the protective cover for the cable was rubbing on the exhuast manifold and was burned all the way thru, causing the cover to seperate. This allowed the cable itself to be pull out of the driven gear. I wonder if you can buy just the cover?
