I just tried to loosen up the exhaust manifold bolts to see if they would all free up before starting this project and all the manifold bolts broke loose which was great.. I then tried to loosen the three nuts/bolts that connect the Y pipe and heat riser to the exhaust manifold.. passenger side (which I thought would be the easiest bolts) but they are pretty tight and rusty. They have nuts on the bottom but no heads on the top. Looks like they thread into the flange on the top. Wazup with that? I sprayed everything with PB blaster and I'm going to let it sit over night. I didn't want to try muscling them off because I want to use the car tomorrow and didn't want to snap one of these bolts/studs. Does anyone know if the nuts are suppose to come off or does the studs unscrew from the top flange. Are these going to be hard studs to find/replace?
The nuts will come off if they are not too rusted. If they are, they will pull the whole stud out. Two of my nuts (ha ha) came off and the other one, every time I loosen it, the whole stud comes off with the nut still locked on.

Very sharp looking vette you have.

Thanks.. Did you ever look into replacing those bolts? I hate putting back rusted anything if I don't have to.. Maybe taking them to a wire wheel will make them look better..
I remedied this problem on my 68 by going to stainless steel studs. You can also lessen the proble with your standard existing studs by using brass nuts on them and if you are concerned about accidental loosening, then just use double nuts on each stud as it locks them. Both of these methods have worked for me over the years and were learned from a real old times who is a mechanic by trade and raced on weekends.( Anti seize compound might work also)
Good luck,
