I am installing new arp head bolts on a 350 with ZZ4 alum heads. My question is how does one use both the thead sealer and thead lubricant? Do I put the sealer on the lower half of the theads and put the lubricanton the upper part of the theads or do I do just the opposite. thanks Robert
The sealer acts as a lubricant, so don't apply lubricant to the blind bolts. Make double damn sure that your blind head bolt holes are clean and dry. Many good blocks get split by liquid in the bolt hole.
There are no blind head bolt holes on this model 350, all head bolts go into coolant jackets. Use the ARP tephlon thread paste (or equiv) on first 1/2" of threads, not to much though. As the bolt is turned the excess will be pushed up to the shank of the bolt leaving just enough in the lower threads to seal. Use the oil under the head of the bolt and both sides of the washer to reduce the friction durning tightening. Make sure to look at the washer and have the chamfer up towards the bolt's head as this is needed to clear the radius under the head. Installed wrong and you may not achieve the correct bolt load because of this friction.

Here is a quote from ARP
Prior to installing your “new” head studs, it is very important that you have clean surfaces to start. First, clean all the threads in the block with a thread chaser; make sure that you go all the way to the end of threads in the hole. This will also ensure that you get full thread engagement of the stud in the block. Next, clean the threads with brake or carb clean to remove any thread sealer, lube or antifreeze that may be on the threads. Then, clean the threads on the fastener. Use a liberal amount of ARP Thread Sealer, hi temp silicone or loc-tite on the threads to ensure that there will be no air pockets which can cause leaks. Then follow the instructions for installing the fasteners.
