Default Why Winterize?

I confess that I am skeptical of the idea of winterizing. I realize that people North of Maryland and similar lattitude should because it snows frequently and salt on the road eats the frame of your car. I live in Virginia and we do not see snow often. A typical year yields 1-2 snowings but normally nothing big. When it snows, I don't drive my Vette but a week later or so, I'll be back on the road with her.

Other than salt, are there other reasons to winterize?

Thanks for your help and comments.

you should change your oil to a thinner sae rating so that you can get better lube for the temperature... if you live where its 30 degrees all the time during the winter.

ussually people use the term winterize when their car is going to sit all winter and they want it to start right up the first time they crank it in the spring.

Oh absolutely!
Everyone should use the Minnesota snow schedule to winterise their car. Even those in Florida and Arizona need to store their cars for the Minnesota winters:lol:

Seriously, I store my car because it gets extremely nasty up her in December, January and Febuary and March. I mean Constant snow, constant below freezing temps frequent below zero temps. More salt then a McDonalds frenchfry. I don't see my grass from December to April.

Cars here will frequently turn white from the salt on the roads caking onto the body panels ( and this can happen within a day of washing it!). Even when it's dry there is salt in the air, sometimes it makes a cloud over the freeway and you can smell it. On warm days a drive on the freway turns into a 60 mph salt spray.

Thats why

I live on Long Island and here we get a lot of ice. As soon as that happens, the sand trucks let me know its time to store until Spring when the sweepers come out to do their thing. :hat

No fun up here in northern Illinois either :cry Freezing temps, along with lots of sleet, salty slush, ice storms, freezing rain, snow, did I mention more SALT than an anchovy. Three weeks into the snow season, I have at least an inch of powdered salt on my garage floor from my everyday vehicle. My Vette, Harley, and Formula all hibernate this time of year. No car, much less a Vette should endure that kind of torture!! :yesnod:
