Front Wheel Bearing Problem
Finding more goodies as I begin the clean up of my new '75.
I noticed that the front wheels had side to side play in them. I pulled the bearing cap and sure enough, the bearing nut was too loose. After cleaning everything up, I can see some wear on the spindle where the beearings are. It is a duller shaded and clearly worn smooth, not the knurled look of the other areas of the spindle. If I run my finngernail over the ridge it reailly is not noticeable. However, when I put the old bearing on it, I can wiggle the bearing slightlly, obviously too much play.
Is this wear likely on the bearing or the spindle. I will buy new bearings tomorrow and test, but I am concerned that I will need a new spindle.
Any suggestions? Does anyone know the service limits for the spindle? I could find a caliper and measure it.

sounds like the spindle is ok. Put on a new set of bearings and adjust for a .002 ( I think, I have a paper here somewhere) and you should be good to go. The bearing doesn't run on the spindle, it runs on the inner race
