Buliding a 383 this is what I have 383 stroker,6in rod ,.030 flat top piston ( 2 valve relief ) ,750 hooley, dual plane intake. Now the real question. Cam I have is 224 / 224 450lift and 882 heads thinking of porting heads and use this setup or do I scrap cam and heads if need to scrap head and cam what would be good replacement want to stay with pump gas don,t want to go with vortec setup.Car would be for street most of the time want something to get up and go.
The normal answer you will get is:
1: Not enough info, 2: buy an over priced set of aluminum heads just to drive on the street and 3: the same ole same ole Comp cam 268 extreme cam. Oh yea one more thing, the favorite thing is 4: "ditch the Holley and run a quadrajet" that you have to send off and get rebult 10xs and still runs like a Voltswagon!
I say Dart Iron Eagles with big valves,480/280 Magnum Comp Cam and no less than a 750 DP Holley, 3500 stall.
Won't the 64 cc put me out of pump gas range with the flat top piston
have no desire to go big block
9.75 C/R with Dart 72cc Heads and a .039" Gasket. The 64cc versions will bump you up to 10.6 C/R minimum. Match the cam to the C/R and you will be fine.
