another weekend in the garage and another problem!
i'm installing a 76 a/c unit into my 70. i'm getting 12 volts at the clutch wire connection when the mode selector switch is in the off, max, and a/c positions. it's 0 volts in vent or heat. what's with 12 volts in the off position? i should have bought a ford!

The a/c switch has a contact near the a/c selector wheel, when you go from off to max, norm or bilevel and return to off afterwards by a small lever that hit or release the contact, check that contact to see if the wheel lever will reach it.

thanks for the reply. the switch seems to be working propery. i didn't know if my voltage readings were normal, or if the match between the 70 dash harness and the 76 a/c harness were causing trouble. i installed a 70 a/c control with green lettering, and checked the control that i got with the used system. the switch doesn't open when the thumb wheel is moved to the off position. that's what's puzzling me. is there another switch that opens the circuit?
There is no other switch that I know except main A/C thumb switch. Thats what I am sure about when I replaced my A/C wiring harness. You may try to remove the shifter console and try to spray some contact cleaner beneath the switch, they are little hard to reach though. If the switch assembly is the original one then I recommend to just remove it from shifter console and bench clean and test it, thats what I did to mine and now its like new.
