I'm looking for a relay for my power windows. I would like to use just one per side instead of two, but I can't find anyone local who knows enough for me to describe it to them.
What I'm looking for is a relay that uses two control wires to move the contact in tree different positions; power up, power down, and neutral. Does such an animal exist? A part number would be helpful
Look at Newark electronics (do a Google). What you are describing is a double pole, double throw relay. The trick may be to find one that can handle the amperage of a P/W motor.
Here is a 12V programmable relay. This has 8 inputs and 4 relay outputs. I 'think' it's around $100 and will do both sides. These work just like PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers). I think the output relays are rated at 8 amps. If I'm understanding your electrical configuration correctly, this would be the I/O table:
Inputs
1) Drivers Side Switch Up
2) Drivers Side Switch Down
3) Passenger Side Switch Up
4) Passenger Side Switch Down
5) Not Used
6) Not Used
7) Not Used
8) Not Used
Outputs
1) Drivers Window Up
2) Drivers Window Down
3) Passenger Window Up
4) Passenger Window Down
8 amps is not going to be enough for power windows. I would think 15-20.
Wow...get out the welding cable! I don't have PW so a wasn't sure what the Amp draw was. The problem was trying to have 1 relay control dual inputs. This is the only way I know to do that.
Ya, I figured out an hour or so ago that a SPDT relay with an open neutral would work. I thought the SP part was the control wires not the power wire, but I'm on top of it now. NOw having problems finding a 30 amp base. I'm closer though! If nothing else at least I'm learning a lot.
