Default Hood Advise

I am a new member so please bear with me if this has been answered before.

I just rebuilt my 77' l82 engine. I replaced everything except the block and the crank with performance parts. Which brings me to my question; I am using a Weiand Team G Intake Manifold (WND-7531, Summit) which has a 2" raised plenum and a 3" air filter element. I know the stock hood will not fit and I am not sure what hood will fit. I like the l88 hood, and the LT Hi-rise, with ducts. Will either of these work? Does anyone know of any other aftermarket hi-rise hoods that will fit?

Thanks

Jared, welcome to the forum. I speak from experience and can tell you: Your Vette life will change dramatically as you will get more advice than you ever imagined

My hood advice is to stay out of it. Last time I drove through it somebody threw a baseball threw my windshield - for real !

Seriously, though, you either want to drop the filter down, which you might be able to do with a drop base air filter base or you need a taller hood.

Seems like you like a taller hood and I like the L88 myself. Installation is not a big deal and you can do a search on the forum and get a lot of good info. Bottom line is probably price as even Vanacor now will charge $450 or so for the L88 hood and this is before shipping. Estimate at least $550 or so to your door. All other suppliers like Eckler's are higher than that.

Thanks for the welcome. As far as the advice... I am sure over the restoration process and upgrades I will need all the advice I can get!!!

I defiantly like the more aggressive looks of the taller hoods. I still plan on keeping the original just in case I ever want to go back.

I would really appreciate a couple pics. The hood you ordered from Vanacor; does it come ready to install and paint?

This is the 4" L88 Hood. Needed it to close on a airgap RPM Manifold, I loved the original 69 SB hood, But it severely compromized my performance engine potential.

69vettester - Thanks for the pic. That's a nice looking car!!!

Do you know what the distance from the bottom of the intake manifold to the bottom of the hood is?

I'm pretty-sure the above hood will be sitting on my fenders someday, but I'd like to see 2000FRCZ19's hood, too.

..... short of a tunnel-ram or mechanical fuel-injection, I don't think 'hood-clearence' would ever be a problem.

Or you could always do this, $125 to the door?

Of course stock guys cringe when they see me coming, but its all about what you like.

King Lear - I like that look on cars that are blown or have filters like yours...but I don't think that it would look that good with a 14" round filter sticking out.

The 3rd option is a hood scoop. I am glassing on a Thunderbolt now. It's all a matter of personal taste.

Here is an American High Rise that I converted to Ram-Air. It will have metal screen behind the openings. I think it looks pretty aggressive.

Glasstek also offers a high-rise C3 hood, with a 'pronounced' center-rib, as-seen here on Greg Eaton's 8-second ride:

I really like your hood. Did you do all the work yourself? How much taller is the American High Rise hood than factory?

Yea, I have to do all the work myself...well me and my 11 year old son. The hood is a little over 3" taller than a stock hood. Right now, I am fabricating the airbox for the Ram-air that will seal to a factory cowl induction air cleaner. Glad you like it.
