Hi everyone! Brand new to the forum but have been reading it for a while now. I am in the process of restoring a 79. Getting within sight of being done and am considering putting on lambo hinges. I LOVE the looks but have not seen them up close and personal. Does any one have personal experience with them? Do they work well, comfortable to get in and out, one brand work better than another? I would appreciate any feedback. I am looking forward to posting completed pictures as soon as I am done.
Larry
My personal experience is if I still lived on that side of the tracks I would have lambo doors. As it is, I like the stock config.
Not to bust on your plans, But I really don't like them much.
Welcome to the forum, post some pics and tell us what ya got done and what the direction is.
i have seen one on ebay for quite some time with lambo doors and a large butterfly catcher, silver, looks to be around 79 80. Dont know if its still there but its worth looking.... i personaly dont like the lambo look on a corvette. Its a corvette, not a lambo but its your car and more power to you.

I always thought lambo doors would look awsome on a C3 until I saw this Ebay ad. The doors are too skinny and without the window frame just look stupid sitting way out there. Look good on the C5 though
Personally, while I like guillotine doors on the lambo, I don't think they'd look good on C1-C3 Vettes.
But it answer your question. Every guillotine door mod I've seen on any car was done just for looks and didn't get it right. The one nice part of that type of door is that make the car easy to get in and out of in a tight parking lot. The door should almost clear the door opening completely. Which is a problem with the mod'ed doors. As the door piviots it leaves the bottom front of the door in the way, actually making it harder to get in and out of the car. To do it right, the front of the door and fender would require major re-design/modifications. Check out the Lambo's carefully, the piviot point is farther forward than the bottom front edge of the door by a good ways.
a friend of mine had a mustang with lambo style doors, they were always a pain to shut. they had to be lined up just right before they could be shut.
i wouldnt want to deal with that. but thats just my opinion
I used to do custom trucks prior to the vette hobby, in my personal experience any of that "custom" stuff never fits right and is a pain to make work.
I appriciate your interest in custom stuff on a corvette, I would leave the lambo door mod for smaller new cars like civics.......those C3 doors are a pain as it is.
I got to thinking about my post and was gonna pop in and apologize for pizzin on the guys idea, but I see its a group wizz
Welcome to the new guy, sorry this one got stepped on, but don't be afraid to post your stuff, sometimes your the bug and sometimes your the windshield
I've seen all kinds of Lambo door kits on just about every kind of vehicle. They are all shaky and not designed well. Many folks had told me horror stories of their doors being broken during normal operation by passengers who do not know how to close them. It takes a special technique to pivot the door downward and then in. Plus, it will surely hurt the value of a Vette (older model ones at least).
But, as I always say: "to each his own".
Hi and thanks to all who answered. I appreciate all the responses. I'd rather have my idea "pizzed on" by those with a lot more experience than I rather than going ahead with the idea and ending up "pizzing" on myself.
Looking forward to continued communications and can hardly wait to begin posting pics and get more suggestions back. You guys have some awesome looking rides.
Thanks again,
Larry
I have personally used them and thought they were alright. Seemed to be strong enough for everyday use, but still have the shock factor. Probably won't get them for mine, but there is a company that has bolt on lambo doors for our body style. So if you decide you don't like them, take them off, put your stock hinges back on, and sell the kit on eBay. Good luck on your ride. And welcome to Corvette Forum.

I like your attitude. Seriously positive outlook! I'd wrench with ya anyday.
Larry, welcome to the forum, there are literally thousands of C3 vettes, and most of them with a fair amount of modifications in the resto/maintenance process, from cosmetic, like the doors, to heavy mechanical/engineering mods.....it runs the entire gamut....
do some looking around at various member sites, and see what guys have done, and get some ideas/concepts of your own from that input....at the very least you get some ideas and questions...
at the most, you get what works, and what don't....
IMO, on the doors, I suspect that for ME, it's not an option...
