Have been considering March or similar brand underdrive pulleys for my 71 350 engine. Had a big problem last month with blowing my power steering belt off and it took the water pump, alternator belt with it! Do these deep grove pulleys work? and does the larger diameter make much difference in the HP. I want to be able to spin the motor to 6000 without the fear of the belt flying off. Thanks!
I am running the stock pully setup and have rapped up to 6000RPM without a problem many times.I think the March type setups are very expensive for what you get.
Every little bit helps. Right :D Mine were on the car when I bought it and I like them. The only problem I ran into was my alternator did not charge propperly at idle (didn't turn fast enough) so I went back to a stock pulley on it. lou
I agree with Lou, I dont think they are worth the price you pay for them for the amount of HP you are going to gain. Also as said in the post above, the alternator will not charge as well, the car (from what my engine builder told me) tends to run hotter, and the AC, if you have it, will not work as well. I think that GM took a lot of time in designing the motors for peak HP (to some degree anyway :D ) per motor. I an running all the stock pully set up and have had no problem. If you are thinking about just improving looks check out the billit aluminum pullys. Same as stock sizes only polished.

Have you considered a March Performance serpentine belt conversion kit? It looks awesome and the belt will never fly off. I love the setup on my big block.
LT1-Tom,
I am using a March pulley on my harmonic balancer onlyon my 74 small block. I reduces the speed by about 20%. I have not had a problem charging at idle. My idle speed is about 700 rpm. The cost of the pulley was about $90[if my memeroy is correct] from Summit. Is it worth the cost ?
