I have a 1969 corvette that has a leaky gas tank that needs to be replaced. The car was originaly equipped with the 350 C.I., 350hp, 380 ft-lbs trq engine option, but is curently running a 427 Big Block intalled by a previous owner. I see from various parts catalogs that corvettes were equipped with different gas tanks depending on the engine they came with. I don't know the difference between the gas tanks, so the question I have is, which gas tank should I purchase as the replacement? Will the original engine type determine which gas tank will fit correctly, or the current engine type?
FrankVincent,
Thanks for the explanation. I was hopeing that there wasn't much of a difference between the types (maybe just size) but it sounds like there are some important differences. I guess the current setup is what matters (return lines etc.). The smart thing for me to do is remove the current gas tank and see what kind is currently being used and order the proper replacement.
There is very little difference. One tank will have a little tube that attaches to a fuel return line, while the other tank will not have the little tube. I just changed the tank in my 68. My fuel return line is currently not hooked up, but I bought the right tank that has the tube for the fuel return line. I just attached a hose to the tube and capped it off, so if I want to hook up the fuel return line in the future it will be right there for me.

Cool. Thanks for the advice PRNDL. By the way, did you end up buying the tank from Automotive Parts Network? It looks like a nice savings compared to other suppliers. If you did get it from APN, did it come with the sending unit retaining cam and gasket, and filler neck screw set and cork gasket?
