Default 1982 Vette - Brakes etc

Have a 1982 Vette. 77k miles. The rear body bushing/washers
look dried and cracked and are original. Is it worth replacing and does it have any affect on the suspension if left alone. This is a Sunday car
only.

Also, brakes squeek like hell. Caliper and rotors are original the mechanic suggested replacing everything - pads, calipers and rotors
Calipers have seal leaks but said since I use it for casual driving
(20 miles a week) that I can get a couple more years out of em.

Is best to stick to OEM brake parts?

Its a bit of a waste of $ and a sign of a lazy/incompetent mechanic to take the shotgun approach like that. Pads squeel for a reason, they vibrate against the pistons and rotors. Take the system apart, clean everything, get the rotors surfaced LIGHTLY, switch over to the O-Ring piston kit from Vette Brake Products, they are a vendor on here and its a good system. put it all back together and it should work fine for annother 25 yrs. Not driving these things can give rise to squeeling brakes, leaking calipers and the like, the o-rings will fix that.

The body mounts don't affect suspension and they looked cracked 3 yrs after the car was built. Get under there and take some pics and post them in here and we can help you figure out if its something to worry about. Pull the kick panels off and look at the #2 mounts, pics there too. Those are usually where problems show up. If there is a leak in the windshield frame or birdcage the water gets trapped there and eats the rail out of the body.

Thank you very much. I was thinking the same. This jerk of a mechaninc
had me sepnding 1000 bucks in parts and labor. I asked him about cutting the rotors and he advised against it. I also mentioned cleaning the system and he felt it wasnt worth it. My opinion is the same as yours,
lazy and I got the impression he didnt even want to be bothered working on it. He even suggested I buy the parts for him! The sickening part, he's a brake specialist!
