Will be ordering the 1406 Edelbrock carburetor this weekend from Summit to replace my Quadrajet on a Performer 2101 manifold. Currently I have aftermarket air cleaner. Appears I will need EDL-8089 ( Banjo fitting ) and EDL-8135 ( Fuel line kit ). I know I may require calibration kit later, but I hope I get lucky without it. Someone who has done this conversion please confirm this will be all I need to order. I realize I may require some longer hoses and mounting studs, but these can be acquired down at the auto parts. Going on a '74 L48. Thanks in advance for your help.
I have the divorced choke. I found the remanufactured ones on the Summit website, but the one specified for my car is $354. If that is the case I might as well spring for the new one at $397. Anyway that is the reason I was considering the electric choke 1406 at a lower price. I realize there are more hassels setting it up. Still would like to know which parts are required.
Why are you changing carbs? I don't think you will see any improvement with the Edelbrock Performer (which is basically a Carter AFB) over the Q-Jet. If the Q-Jet is acting up, Lars can rebuild it for about $100 which is a much better deal.
i agree lars can get you all fixed up rather cheaply!!
but if your in a purchasing mood, you can order the one from summit that goes in the 79+ years with an electric choke... and toss that divorced choke crap...
i too dont think youll seeimprovement with the edelbrock performer....
the performer is 600 cfm isnt it??
the qjet is 795 cfm!!!
and isnt the performer mechanical secondaries??
id stick with the qjet. much less hassle to install also... no fabrication requiired.
Basically, I was trying to get away from the divorced choke so when I go looking for heads later on I will not be limited to only those with the heat crossover. I remember previous posts where users have seen an improvement from switching from Quadrajet to a 1406. From what I understand 600 CFM is enough for a pretty much stock small block.
