255/60s were an available option in '78. Changes were made to the front inner wheel well openings up to accommodate the extra width. On earlier C3s, 255/60s had a tendency to rub on the inner wells at full steering lock on some cars. I just put 255/60s on my '77 without any problems.
I would not use the 225s. I would at least use the 245s. If it were my car I would use the 255s and fill them with nitrogen. If you are a member of Costco they will fill them for free.
Good Luck
Steve
I'd say that the Goodyear Eagle GTII 255 60 15 are hard to beat! I have 2 vettes almost alike the white vette has the 225 70 and the red vette has the 255 60 and the red vette will out handle and hook up more than the 225's any day!
