I have a 69 roadster, or so I thought. I was reading the differences between the 68 & 69 the other day and
noticed that is 69 they removed the reverse light and put them in the brake lights. My 69 has both, reverse lights
down low and in the brake light lens. Any ideas why? What other differences are there? I have the stingray script
and 69 door handles.
The best way to be sure is to check your numbers. But dont worry, there are a thousand little quirks in the vettes. I had a 70 that was full of 69 parts. My brother had a 67 GTO with a 389 engine. The Pontiac guys will tell you they were all 400's. My tail lights are aftermarket lens that the previous owner liked better than the originals. Thats what makes this hobby fun.
Look at your VIN #. It is located on the driver side windshield post, look at it from outside if the car, through the windshield. It will look something like this: 194678S400001. If the '8' is a '9' your car is a '69, or vice versa. The last five numbers of the VIN is your order of production. VIN is sometimes referred to as Serial # designation.
The '68 has a dash mounted ignition switch, the 69 has a steering column ignition. It was very common on the 70's and later for people to make changes to their vette to try and change what year they really had???
