Default mini starter wiring

I have a new mini starter for my 71 but have a question on wiring.
this is the current starter with 4 wires. 2 to the battery terminal one for the starter signal from the switch and one that powers the ignition coil.

and thisis the new starter. it does not have a provision for the feed to the ignition coil. would there be aproblem just finding another switched 12 volt feed for the ignition? my ignition has been converted to HEI.

Short answer yea, any switched source is OK.

It's been a while since I dealt with that issue so I forget where I got the power from...

Ok gator, since u won't try a search then maybe this short answer will help ya'. The original large terminal has 2 red wires that u can lay down the same on that "mini" large term. Now the inside (block side) small term wire (usually labeled "P" and is the purple wire on my '74) goes to the ign sw and u will need to lay that down on the small term of the "mini"- u can use a blade lug for this (radio shack or hardware store). Last the original outside wire goes to the coil (usually labeled "S" and is the yellow wire on my '74) and ain't used on the "mini" - cut off the lug and tape it back (or remove it of course).
If u need to know why that coil wire ain't used the u will have to do a search as it has been posted several times (by myself at least and u can look back into my posts in my profile for some glorious information on starters). Yea check out my goofed attempt at using a "mini" in my profile link if you have alingment issues.:o

Good luck and please post what works for u,

Can someone tell me which wire is which in this picture? The bigger one in the middle is the power from the batt, but which of the others is the "R" wire that I don't need and which one is the ignition switch? If have this correct, I just put the batt wire on the "big" connection on the mini starter and I can put the ignition switch wire on the "blade" terminal. Is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks guys. Also, all 3 wires are red and now that I'm thinking about it, there might have been a black wire in that bunch also that I'm assuming is a ground. Can't remember for sure though, it's been a week since I took this picture/looked at it.

its been to long for me to remember, just use a test light or volt meter and see the one that has voltage only in the start position and thats the correct one.

So whichever one has voltage with the key turned all the way over (as in trying to start the car) is the one that goes on the blade terminal and the other one can just be capped? Thanks a ton!
