Well I bought the only pretty thing for my car during the rebuild. A polished aluminum timing cover.
Problem 1: Due to the thickness of the flange the stock pointer sets out too far.
Problem 2: the cover itself sets out too far and the stock pump hits it.
Does anyone know of an after market pump that stands out farther but still has the pulley flange in the correct location.
Or do I just go get another stanped metal one and paint it and hope for no leaks.
I am running an aluminum cover also.I found the bolt heads on the water pump cover were hitting the timing cover so I went with thinner bolt heads. It was still a tight fit but I found thicker water pump gaskets and that seemed to do the trick.Summit sells several styles of timing pointers.I would give them a call and ask what will work with your setup. The guy that set my engine up fabed a pointer that worked until I went with a street damper balancer.I need to put a better pointer on my engine also.I can not quite see the 38 degree mark with the current setup.
Thanks asmith, I think that might do the trick on the pump. As for the pointer they have a 26$ pointer they say will work but that just seems too high a price I may just fabricate on too.
