Hi everyone! I am new to this site. I have just purchased a 74 convertible and find that when it reaches 200 degrees on the meter the clutch fan goes on and is extremely loud. Is that normal?

They do get loud when they are pulling max air but I assume you know the difference between air moving and a BAD noise. Chances are it's done and needs to be replaced.
Do you kow around how much this would cost..the part that is?
Oreilly has them for your car starting at $39.99

Yeah that's pretty much normal. You see they are thermal fan clutches. They don't lock up for maximum fan rotation until the element on the case of the fan clutch reaches a certain temp. Then it locks up you hear nothing but air moving.
I would suggest maybe trying to lower the overall temp a little. Check all your radiator core support seals. They make sure air goes through the radiator instead of around it. Also, when was the last time the cooling system was flushed a filled? It should be done every year.
Do those checks first, and if your temp still rides high and you hear that whoosh it may be completely normal.
Something else you can do to test it is start the motor. Wait for it to get to operating idle temp, and shut the motor off with the hood up. Watch that fan. If it turns more than two full times when the motor is off then it is in fact bad.
Well, sorry , but I dont kow exactly whre that fan is, i just picked up the car today.
Also , I dont need a new interior but, i would like to make it near new again. The owner said I can buy the whole interior kit for them, including the door panels, carpet seats and trim...is that true?
