STOCK OE L48 retrofitted w/ 64cc chambers & felpro 1094 gasket make about 9.5:1 scr.
I'm not knowledgeable about vortec-heads, but I want to ask this question of 'jackson', as he might know.....

I understand the intake bolt-holes with vortec heads & intakes are 'vertical', or 'straight-down', unlike traditional SBC intakes and heads, which go 'straight-INTO' the cylinder head:
if this is true, and you'd take a big-whack off the vortec head, is it possible the bolt-holes won't line-up properly, because even-if you'd face-off the side-flanges of the intake (to allow the ports to match-up properly ), the bolt-hole center-lines still won't be in-line with each-other.....

is this reason-for-concern with vortec-style heads, or am I as F'd-up as a football-bat?

The likelyhood of misalignment is true of any chevy head that is milled. We mill the crap out of 76cc production iron heads to reach min track rule of 70cc. Track rule also requires EB 2101 performer intake ... we always have to hog out the bolt holes on the intake and need extra silicon around ports ... all because of misalignment from head milling ... track rule does NOT permit milling or porting of intake. We also block off the exhaust Xover port on each production head with a thin shim of steel siliconed to head. I know ... to a dragracer this stuff probably looks like a monkey f'n a football ... but it's SOP for circletracks in this region. Just last week freshened & dynoed such a motor ... 441 UNported heads milled to 70cc w/1.94/1.5 valves at TWO angles only, lite flattops @ 4.040", 3.48 stroke GM steel crank at 51 lbs, zerodeck, Victor 5746 0.026" gasket, lite 5.7 rods, solid flat cam @ track rule max of .480" w/ 1.5 stud rockers, virgin EB2101 intake, 3/4" adapter plate, well-massaged Holley TWO barrel 2300 350cfm per track rule, headers & 110 race gas ... 348 hp ... this is typical ... no BS.
