Finally got the car running today....late today....and made a couple of test runs down the road....got dark out pretty quick, so I flipped on the head lights....lights came on, however they did not raise up....car looked really cool going down the road with the grills lit up..I was told by the many who aproached while I was on the side of the road banging on the light doors....I even pulled the littlle switch below the steering column....so guess what I'll be trying to fix tomorrow?.....I looked for any disconnected or crimped hoses...NADA.....Is there some sort of electrical connection from the switch to a mechanical relay or something?
Re: Head lights will not go up? (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
I had the same problem.
The "T" connection on the vacum lines to the acuators was apart, which did not allow either door to open. I hope yours will be as simple to fix.
I have read various posts on the forum about doors closing after the car is shut off. Once my 81 is not running the doors will not close. One of the winter project is to revamp the system.
Re: Head lights will not go up? (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
I'm not sure how it is set up on your '81, but on my '77 the light switch has both the normal electrical connection and the vacuum connection. It's also relatively easy to change on mine, but if I remember correctly from other posts, it's not quite as easy for yours. Anyway, that was my problem when both headlights would not lift. I was glad I didn't have to dig too deeply through the vacuum hoses.
Re: Head lights will not go up? (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
Just finished with the light system and all works fine now had to replace the relays {74 has two} not sure but I heard that later models only have one,Where before if one went bad the other one would still work. You might have a model that only has one,and if it failed would lead you to the situation the you discribe.Check the relay, first. BTW I replaced both relays did not want to depend on only one, though some have done this, because they are costly 50-80
Thanks,
I have an 81 and I thinking during my tinkering around under the hood....I may have pulled a vacuum line off somewhere that feeds vacuum to the actuators....going to check all vaccum lines today to see if something came off while I was in there. Correct me if I'm wrong....Vacuum pulls the doors open? Anyone have a vacuum line schematic? Thanks again.....and Aloha from Hawaii........Cappy :seeya
