I'm looking to put a keyless entry system into my 76 corvette. Well the system has already been installed (Needed the alarm to able to sleep at night due to several break-ins in the area) but the installer told me that the power locking device tends to burn out in that "kind of corvette". I was wondering if you guys might know anything about this or can recommend a brand that works for you.
The door lock kits are "branded" by many companies-Inexpensive (can you say "Made in China") and the complete kit w/ actuators and hardware goes for about $60.
These should not burn up- unless the installer doesn't set then up right and they bind up.
I put keyless in my car, a '77, and had to do some interesting mods. The actuators are five wire so the lock ***** themselves are the buttons. Lock or unlock one and they both change to reflect it. The downside is you need full travel, which is around 1" and if you have less it'll just return to the previous position rendering the system unusable.
I used a washer to assist and to lengthen the travel of the actuator, giving me double what the linkage offers, at a poultry .5".

So you have keyless and you want to add an alarm? Not sure what your looking to do.
You can add an alarm with keyless and you will have no problems as long as you use good product. Does your vette have power door locks?
Thanks to everyone for the information. That washer modification is genious. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Hopefully I won't screw it up to bad.
