I pulled my A.I.R. pump tonight but had to pull the driver's side manifold to get the tubes out. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=177958 The gaskets are only about 3 years old so I was wondering if I need to replace them since I removed the manifold.
Re: Should I replace exhaust gaskets? (sharklover)
Avery: Gaskets are cheap, so I'd absolutely replace. Also, be aware that I found out that there are differences in these S/B exhaust manifold gaskets. I bought a set from Advanced Auto(don't remember the brand), then bought a set of felpro from Auto Zone, and compared the two. To my surprise, I found the felpro had larger exhaust port openings, and provided a much better fit for my '81 stock heads/mainifolds, than did the 'no name' Advanced Auto brand, which were so small, they actually blocked some of the port passage from head to manifold.
Re: Should I replace exhaust gaskets? (john's '81 mouse)
I'll pick up some gaskets tonight. I'll measure the ports exactly and then measure the gaskets at the store.
I just ordered the true dual exhaust from Mid America so now I have to decide what mufflers to go with. Decisions, decisions. I didn't really plan on doing the exhaust so soon but pulled the A.I.R. pump and didn't know about the tubes inside the manifold. After I got the pump off, I wasn't going to put it back on so I continued and pulled off one manifold. Then I figured, "Hey, I'm this far, might as well do the exhaust." One day I'll install headers and an X-crossover but I don't really have the money right now. Besides, I want to do the suspension before I put in a welded exhaust.
