Default Fuel pump woes....

Ok so I bought a new fuel pump for my '77 L48. I went with a Carter 120 GPH 5.5-7.5 PSI (as suggested by a forum member), it arrived yesterday. Well I went to install it today and only then did I realize that I had an extra line. Appearantly the stock pump had a fuel return line, and my new pump doesn't.... So can I just cap off the return line and still be safe?

Just go get an AC Delco #41240 and put on it.I would not block the return.

Return lines are there for a few reasons I have mine blocked off and it runs fine. However, I only drive it maybe 100 miles a month and use a regulator. If yours is a daily driver I would use it. Also, if you have a fairly stock set up use the AC Delco or any mech version and not an elec pump.

1) The return is used to keep the fuel cooler by constantly recirculating the fuel back to the tank...cooler fuel is always better.
2) Keeps fuel pressure at bay and reduces the chance of premature part failure or wear on components by reducing unwanted pressure.
3) Too much pressure can cause the car to run rich the return eliminates this from happening.

I am sure there are a few more, but can't think of them right now.

Thanks for the info guys, unfortunately I already voided any possibility of sending the pump back so is there any way I can make it work short of a regulator?
