Rercomed Bumpers from Zip Corvettes.
I am looking to buy a new set of rear bumpers for my 73 vette from Zip corvettes. The origional GM ones are way too expensive for my driver so I was trying to decide whether or not to go with the re-chromed ones that Zip corvette sells for $180.00 US a piece. Anyone heard anything about these or actually bought a pair themselves?

No experience with Zips bumpers, but I have used the plating shop they use for their work. The folks that do the plating for Zip will rechrome your original bumpers for about $120 each. If yours fit well, I'd suggest going this route. The plater is Hanlon Plating in Richmond VA. They turned my bumpers around in a week and the quality of workmanship is excellent.

SB 69 IS CORRECT: ZIP USES HANLONS PLATING WHICH IS IN THE SAME CITY AS ZIP, AND DOES ALL THIER CHROMING. AND OF COURSE, ZIP ADDS THIER PRICE TO LUG IT THERE AND BACK. I HAD MINE DONE (REAR BUMPERS, FRONT BUMPERETTES). GOOD WORK, VERY COMPETITIVE PRICING. TURN AROUND WAS 6 DAYS, TO INCLUDE MAILING TIME! (IM IN NC)

I see you are from Toronto, would you want info on a company that is here in Ontario and does a lot of re-chroming for show cars? I believe they are in the Kitchener area, a friend of mine who restores cars uses them a lot. I don't know the name of the company but if you are interested I will contact my friend for the details.

The bumpers I had Hanlon do were two stage chrome. Not sure if they do three stage or not. I'd venture a guess that the Zip bumpers are two stage as well.

There's an excellant shop here in Philadelphia called 'Frankford Plating' you can UPS your bumbers to them and they can rechrome them and ship them back to you.

Hanlon is a good plater, but give Zip credit, they also give you a warranty. I have seen some of the bumpers that come into there and they are ROUGH and they have replaced some just to be curtious to the customer at no charge to him. You can't get better service than that.

Hanlon warrants their work as well. I believe its either a one year or two year warranty. If Zip will warrant it for longer, it may be worth going through them. My bumpers were done 2 1/2 years ago and still look perfect.
